Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Surrey Heath Borough Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to ‘the non-compliances’, listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Selecting seats online using our Choose Seats iframe, as navigating a seating plan is difficult for keyboard-only and/or assistive technology users

This fails Success Criterion 2.1.3 (Keyboard). This part of our website is powered by our booking system Spektrix. They are currently assessing improvements in these areas.

Navigating between dates and performances as keyboard-only and/or assistive technology users are not able to use the date picker to navigate between performances for an event

This fails Success Criterion 2.1.3 (Keyboard). This part of our website is powered by our booking system Spektrix. They are currently assessing improvements in these areas.

Some labels, instructions and error messages are not clearly visible and navigable to users relying upon assistive technology

This part of our website is powered by our booking system Spektrix. They are currently assessing improvements in these areas.

Inline frame without a text alternative. We aim to fix this by 31 March 2022.

This fails Success Criterion 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value).

Images of text are used across the website. Some of these may not have sufficient colour contrast.

This fails Success Criterion 1.4.5 (Images of Text) and 1.4.3 (Contrast - Minimum)

Some documents published between 24 September 2018 - 24 January 2022 may not be fully accessible for various reasons. We plan to fix this by 31 March 2022.

Issues include:
  • Missing headings or headings that don’t follow a logical order - This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships)
  • Missing titles - This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.2 (Page Titled)
  • Default language not specified - This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 3.1.1 (Language of Page)
  • Some links to other websites may not be fully accessible - This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.4 (Link Purpose In Context)
  • Some images may not have alternative text - This fails WCAG success criterion 1.1.1 (Non Text Context)
  • Some tables, including nested tables, may not be easily readable - This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.2 (Meaningful Sequence)

Disproportionate burden

Images of text are used across the website. Some of these may not have sufficient colour contrast.

Due to the way the website is configured images of text are used on the homepage and what's on page. These images do have sufficient contrast and have explanatory alternative text.  Some images of text may also appear on our events booking pages. The colour contrast on these images may not be sufficient. The majority of these images are received externally from individual shows, meaning their design is outside of our control and they are primarily for decorative purposes. We have assessed fixing the issue and believe that fixing these issues now would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

Maps

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix online maps and mapping services, as long as essential information is provided in an accessible digital manner for maps intended for navigational use.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We are currently using SiteImprove Accessibility Checker for automated testing of the full website. We plan to make sure that any new documents which we publish from 24 January 2022 meet accessibility standards. All documents will be checked for accessibility before they are added to the website and reports on PDF accessibility will be reviewed at least monthly to make sure the PDFs are meeting accessibility standards.
